Kristin's Story

On New Year's Eve, 1995, Kristin Cooper, a 20 year old member of Alpha Chi Omega , committed suicide after being raped by a friend. In 1998, Andrea Cooper, Kristin's mother and a member of Delta Delta Delta, decided to share Kristin's story with Greek communities across the country. This program has been supported by funding from the Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta Foundations ever since. In Andrea's words,

"I am sharing this because I hope by telling Kristin's story that other lives will be saved, and other young women will not be victims of acquaintance rape, and that those suffering from depression for ANY reason will get help."

Andrea Cooper has visited hundreds of campuses and talked with thousands of college students ever since. Here's what some students have said about her presentation:

"I have heard nothing but praise from both men and women since Andrea spoke at my university. I have heard many speakers on date rape, but nothing like this before. She made me laugh, cry, smile, and cry some more."

"It really is an incredible program and has been one of the best speakers since I was a freshman. So often we college kids get so wrapped up in the minor details we forget the big picture and often at the cost of our own safety. This program gives college students that reality check."

"We are a small campus, and to have something so nationally renowned come to us directly sponsored by Alpha Chi Omega was a huge boost for our morale and image on campus."
