Share Alpha Chi Omega’s Sisterhood in Exciting Ways!
As an Alpha Chi Omega, you know more than anyone the benefits of this organization—the friendship, the philanthropy, the collective impact.
While many of our members joined Alpha Chi Omega during college, we’ve long sought and accepted women who’ve already graduated and who now seek the benefits of a strong women’s organization. All of us are enriched by a community of interesting and accomplished women of all ages. And it’s okay to make that choice beyond college.
Let's get started! Learn about our new alumna initiate program, process and FAQs.
Did you know that your alumnae chapter or small group of dedicated alumnae can now perform an Alumna Initiate Ceremony to initiate an outstanding woman, special friend or relative in your area who is not a member of a Panhellenic group?
Alpha Chi Omega has had an Alumna Initiate Program since 1886…but Fraternity volunteers, staff and convention delegates have streamlined the process to make it easier for Alpha Chi Omega alumnae to find, recruit, educate and initiate qualified women who meet our membership criteria—allowing them to join in the fun, fellowship, philanthropy and sisterhood we have to offer.
After exciting legislation was passed at the 2010 National Convention, Alpha Chi Omega is pleased and proud to offer an alternative Ritual for Alumnae Initiates when it is not practical or feasible to be initiated by a collegiate chapter—making it easier for more women to join our sisterhood, even those who do not have a collegiate chapter or even an alumnae chapter nearby.
All collegians will still participate in the Second Degree of Initiation that we know and love. The Alumna Initiation Ceremony combines that ceremony with the First Degree of Initiation and the Hall of Commitment, which many Alumnae Initiates never get to experience. In addition, it adds language that makes the experience more relevant for alumnae members, rather than addressing only a collegiate experience.
The National Council, Foundation Board of Trustees and National Housing Corporation Board of Directors approved expanding the Alumna Initiate Program as part of the 2010-2015 strategic plan…and the voting delegates at Convention overwhelmingly agreed with the changes proposed by the Alumna Initiate Task Force and the Alumna Initiate Ceremony Task Force with the advice and input of the Ritual Task Force.
An alumna initiate is simply a woman who was not involved with Alpha Chi Omega or another sorority as a collegian, but who now wants to join. Perhaps you know someone who’s served Alpha Chi Omega in some way. Someone who’s volunteered at your side. Someone who’s a dear friend or family member. Someone who’s made a difference in your life, your community, your workplace. So help us recruit. Help us grow this sisterhood. Help us expand our reach and reputation by adding alumna initiates.
If you know of someone you’d like to introduce to Alpha Chi Omega, contact Kassie Kissinger, Director of Lifetime Engagement.
