Our Team
Volunteers

We’d love to have you volunteer. Find out how to get started today.

Alpha Chi Omega would not be the organization it is today without the generous contributions of time and talent from members throughout the nation. Whether they work at the local or national levels, these women supplement the work of our board and staff and help our organization accomplish far more than it otherwise could. From time to time, we’ll feature some of our volunteers on this page so that members, prospective members and friends might learn about them, the impact of their volunteerism, and the kind of difference you too can make as a volunteer within and beyond Alpha Chi Omega.

2010 Volunteer Report

Volunteer Spotlight

Each month we will feature alumnae who give their time and talent to Alpha Chi Omega.

bushouse

Karen Bushouse
Alpha, DePauw University
Alpha House Corporation Board President

Also: Alpha Chapter's representative for the DePauw Greek Life Advisory Council and is a member of Nu Omega Nu, Alpha's virtual alumnae chapter.  Previously served as and IMPACT facilitator.
Favorite Alpha Chi memory:  My favorite volunteer memories all are connected to the women's reactions to our completed projects.  Our board makes a point to accomplish a project each semester that is visible to the women and on their wish list, such as the new piano, paving the parking lot, renovating the lounge, or creating an Exec Board Office.  However, the most memorable volunteer moment was when I opened the boiler room door and was surprised by a bat that flew out right into my face!  I'm always ready to get my work clothes on and get things done, but chasing down that bat was not what I had in mind!
Favorite quote: "If I can't change the world, I'll change the world within my reach."  ~Catie Curtis
Favorite book: Countless children's books, especially by author Patricia Polacco.  Some of life's greatest stories and lessons are captured for children, yet continue to be essential for adults too!
Hobbies: Yoga, biking, swimming, being outside, traveling, watching Modern Family, walking my dogs and supporting local artists.  I love being involved with creating something new.
Most proud of: Being a Life Loyal Alpha Chi Omega and giving back to the chapter and the organization that has given me so much.  From my Alpha Chi Omega experiences, I have gained tools to make a positive impact in the lives of others as a successful teacher, team leader, volunteer and, upon completion of my Master's Degree at Butler University, as a school counselor.

pamgraham

Pamela Haymes Graham
Alpha Phi, University of Texas at Austin
Beta Zeta Beta Steering Committee Member

Also: Gamma Upsilon House Corporation Board member.  Previously served as Iota Pi Chapter Advisor, Beta Zeta Beta Alumnae Chapter President, District/Province Alumnae Chairman and National Nominating Committee member.
Favorite Alpha Chi memories:  Serving on the 1988-1990 National Nominating Committee with, among others, Jari Askins, Julie Burkhard and Barbara Horton. It was my most difficult yet most rewarding Alpha Chi adventure. We came together from different backgrounds and experiences to nominate the women we felt best to lead our fraternity for the following two years.
Not on her resume: I'm a Libra.  To stay in balance I almost have two of everything!  Also, in college, I slept late and missed my interview with the National Security Agency!
Childhood ambition: I had two glamourous uncles, one an FBI agent and one a pilot for American Airlines, so I wanted to be a          stewardess and a spy!
Favorite quote: "You should not live one way in private, another in public." ~Publilius Syrus
"Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." ~Miriam Beard
Hobbies: Needlepoint lets me be creative, Iyengar yoga brings me peace, strength and flexibility and travel (especially to Italy where I can practice the Language I'm learning in class), which enriches my appreciation of the world.
Most proud of: With my husband, raising two amazing children who are grounded and happy pursuing careers and interests they love.  Also, pinning daughter Sarah at her initiation into Alpha Phi with two of my chapter sisters as a support group.

viancca

Viancca Burger Williams
Gamma Pi, University of Tampa
Director of Province Collegiate Chairs

Also: Leadership Specialist.  Previously served as Beta Omicron Chapter Advisor, on the Legislative Committee, Florida Province Collegiate Chair, Gamma Phi Gamma Secretary and Vice President and IMPACT Alpha Chi Omega Lead Facilitator.
Favorite Alpha Chi memory:  Being in the audience of the Florida Southern College Leadership Awards Night Ceremony when Beta Omicron was awarded Most Improved Organization and Sorority of the Year in the same year!
Not on her resume: When I was in third grade, I was picked to serve on a panel of kids to discuss the meaning of Christmas for a national talk show in Puerto Rico. During the audition process, they asked me to act out what I wanted to do when I grew up and fortunately at that time, I wanted to be a meteorologist!
Favorite quote: "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." ~John Wooden
Most proud of: Going back to school after being out for 3 years, getting my master's degree in Student Affairs and pursuing a career that I am really passionate about!
