Alumnae Book Club Facebook Discussion on Know My Name by Chanel Miller
The memoir is the story of Chanel Miller, a young woman who was sexually assaulted by Brock Turner. At the time of Brock’s trial, her anonymous victim impact statement became instantly viral, but despite the overwhelming evidence against him, he was sentenced to just 6 months in a county jail. Chanel’s memoir reclaims her identity in this story of trauma and shows the power of words. It will transform the way we think about sexual assault, speaking truth and the reality of healing from trauma.
Denim Day: April 29, 2020
Nearly two decades ago, the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the survivor was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, thereby implying consent. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day around the world has become a symbol of protest against flawed and destructive attitudes about sexual assault and a way to raise awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Join Alpha Chi Omega in supporting the victims and survivors of sexual assault by wearing denim or hosting a jean display or event on campus or in your community with awareness and educational information.

Educational programs

Programs with Purpose
During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, collegiate and alumnae chapters are encouraged to facilitate a Program with Purpose (PWP) focused on sexual assault prevention. Members may log in to the website to access the PWPs.

  1. The Dynamics of Sexual Assault
Through this 40-minute Program with Purpose, members will increase their awareness of basic sexual assault and domestic violence dynamics, identify cultural origins, name primary dynamics and deconstruct common myths regarding sexual assault.

  1. Let’s Get Clear on Consent
Through this 40-minute Program with Purpose, members will discuss consent including how it is defined, how it is given or not given, and what this looks like on campuses today.

Sexual Assault is No Joke
Harm Reduction Alliance Educational Poster Series
For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we want to bring attention to the growing need for education on how sexual violence can show up in campus communities and how fraternity and sorority members can be catalysts for change. This April's poster explores the sexual violence continuum and educates members about different forms of sexual violence: invasion of space, unwanted sexual touching, sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape.

Support A Survivor Document
Alpha Chi Omega has created a resource with talking points for our members to help them feel prepared to respond to a sister or friend who chooses to disclose a sexual assault to them. A one-page resource sheet entitled “How to Respond and Support a Survivor” provides phrases and language that can be used when someone discloses an assault. There is also a space to provide local resources.
