Denim Day sq-1Denim day: April 28

Nearly 25 years ago, the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the survivor was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, thereby implying consent.

Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day around the world has become a symbol of protest against flawed and destructive attitudes about sexual assault and a way to raise awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Denim Day sq-2Join Alpha Chi Omega in supporting the victims and survivors of sexual assault by wearing denim, hosting a jeans display or planning a virtual event with awareness and educational information using our graphics below for #SAAM!

Virtual Book Club Discussion: Know My Name by Chanel Miller

Did you know Alpha Chi Omega hosts an online book club just for alumnae? Each month, they read a new book and host virtual discussion posts and live video discussions to chat “face to face.” The Alumnae Book Club chose Know My Name, written by Chanel Miller, as its April 2020 book. To check out the Alumnae Book Club’s discussion posts, click here!

This resource was created in 2021 with the intent for groups of Alpha Chi Omega members to continue this effort started by the Alumnae Book Club to discuss their thoughts after reading Know My Name.

Ideas to Incorporate Sexual Assault Awareness Education into Events

Support A Survivor Document

Alpha Chi Omega has created a resource with talking points for our members to help them feel prepared to respond to a sister or friend who chooses to disclose a sexual assault to them. A one-page resource sheet entitled “How to Respond and Support a Survivor” provides phrases and language that can be used when someone discloses an assault. There is also a space to provide local resources.
