WHY WAS THE 2020 NATIONAL CONVENTION CANCELED?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Council voted to keep the health, safety and well-being of our members, volunteers, delegates, staff and guests as our top priority. Canceling our event now allows us to focus on the immediate needs of our sisters, chapters, local house corporations and Enterprise as a whole as we navigate the pandemic and its associated economic impact. 
 

IF PUBLIC MEETING BANS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING ARE ENDED BEFORE THE ORIGINAL CONVENTION DATES, WILL WE RECONSIDER HAVING CONVENTION IN BALTIMORE?

Regrettably, we will not be able to reconsider this decision. As you can imagine, planning and executing an event of this magnitude takes many months and resources, which we believe will be better used focusing on the more immediate needs of our organization.
 

WAS POSTPONING CONSIDERED? 

Yes, postponing was considered as an option. Regrettably, rescheduling and working to “start over” with a new date and potential new venue, vendors, etc. was not feasible given the timeline we are bound to work within to complete the business of the Fraternity by the end of our fiscal year. 
 

WILL AN ALTERNATIVE VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE BE OFFERED?

The National Council and professional staff will explore opportunities for virtual engagement as it relates to traditional convention activities in the future. We ask for your patience and support as we navigate the complex process of canceling an event of this size in unprecedented circumstances. Any potential opportunities for virtual engagement will be shared with the membership via our regular communication methods. 
 

HOW WILL MY REGISTRATION REFUND BE ISSUED?

All currently registered attendees will automatically receive a full refund within three weeks to the method of payment used during the initial registration process. If, during the registration process, you indicated to bill a collegiate chapter as your payment option, the collegiate chapter will be issued a refund on an upcoming monthly statement. 
 

I ALREADY PURCHASED MY AIRFARE. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

As a general attendee, you are responsible for contacting the airline through which you booked your flight to inquire about its change and/or cancellation policies. Many airlines are currently waiving change fees. 
 

I ALREADY SECURED A HOTEL ROOM IN THE ALPHA CHI OMEGA ROOM BLOCK AT THE BALTIMORE MARRIOTT WATERFRONT. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

As it relates to next steps, if you made a hotel reservation at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, please work with Marriott International to cancel any reservation. Please understand the hotel has very limited staff and is managing many immediate needs. Marriott Global Reservations can assist you with cancellation; you can contact them at 888-236-2427 and reference the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Alpha Chi Omega 2020 National Convention.
 

I’M A VOTING DELEGATE FOR MY COLLEGIATE OR ALUMNAE CHAPTER. WILL I STILL GET REIMBURSED FOR MY FLIGHT?

These decisions are made at the chapter level. As an official delegate, it is recommended you connect directly with the collegiate or alumnae chapter you planned to represent at convention to discuss your chapter’s reimbursement plan. 
 

HOW WILL THE ELECTION OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL AND THE NATIONAL NOMINATING COMMITTEE, AS WELL AS THE APPROVAL OF LEGISLATION, BE VOTED UPON? 

We are in the process of determining the best path forward to conduct the business of Alpha Chi Omega. We anticipate having an answer on this in the coming weeks and will share details with delegates.
 

WHAT IF I STILL WANT TO GATHER WITH SISTERS THIS SUMMER?

Canceling our convention does not preclude sisters from gathering informally or socially in the absence of our biennial event. However, you are cautioned to follow all governmental guidelines, both local and national, and those provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to guide your planning.
 

I WAS SCHEDULED TO RECEIVE MY 50-/60-/75-YEAR PIN AT CONVENTION? CAN I STILL GET MY PIN? ARE THERE OTHER WAYS I CAN RECEIVE MY PIN?

Congratulations on reaching such a significant milestone in your Alpha Chi Omega membership. We cherish your continued involvement! Information regarding membership milestones can be found on our website, including details about ordering a milestone pin. You are also welcome to contact Hannah Harris, assistant director of volunteer management. 
 

I WAS SCHEDULED TO BE RECOGNIZED AS AN INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNER OR TO RECEIVE FOUNDATION RECOGNITION. WILL I STILL BE HONORED AND RECEIVE THIS RECOGNITION?

Details related to award and Foundation recognition are still being developed. We are excited to celebrate the successes of our members and chapters!  
 

I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED HONORING MY SISTERS THROUGH STAR BOOTH. IS THERE STILL A WAY TO HONOR MY SISTERS?

Star Booth has become another beloved Alpha Chi Omega convention tradition. The opportunity to honor sisters who have been our mentors and friends – and to support the important educational and philanthropic work of Alpha Chi Omega through gifts to the Real. Strong. Women.® Fund – remains an important objective. The Foundation is working on alternate and appropriate ways to replace our convention-based Star Booth. More information will be provided in the coming months.
